“Waxhaw in memoriam” was photographed in Waxhaw, North Carolina – a magical, rural area blanketed with some of the most beautiful country fields you could imagine. Very sadly, those fields no longer exist. Within months after these photos were taken, “developers” swooped in and bulldozed them into middle-class neighborhoods and golf courses. Also, for those not familiar with Diane Arbus, “boy with the linen hat” is my 2001 (Afghanistan) allusion to her 1967 (Vietnam) “boy with the straw hat“.
