The boundary between wakefulness and sleep forms its very own reality. This border crossing seemingly randomly places together images, sounds and sensations that seamlessly melt into the normal discourse of the subconscious. Only upon reflection in full consciousness do such constructions take on a bizarre character, creating an odd impression.
Photography and music are my therapeutic media; they enable me to express visually and sonically the dreadful yet colorful realities of living with the curse and blessing of narcolepsy and the inherent normality of its peculiar overlapping of various stages of consciousness.
The majority of my recent creative work is based on images, sounds and sensations that come to me during the transition of realities; it attempts to communicate how the horror, beauty and even absurd humor of these vast, complex worlds go hand in hand.
I’m based in Berlin, Germany, and can be reached at: LKilkka@yahoo.com.
And can now finally (03-2017) also be found on instagram.com/lucidbln !
For those interested in my academic and personal background in German and Southeast-European culture, from 2011-2014 I actively ran and wrote the blog berlin-goes-balkan. I traveled extensively and interviewed many talented artists, musicians and filmmakers – both established and up-and-coming – in Berlin and the Balkans whose works feature a creative connection between the two regions. This is a project that I adore on many levels, but I simply do not have the time to maintain at the moment. Potential guest writers/bloggers: please feel free to contact me.
